Both Provide Direct Access to Industry-leading Financial Analytics and Trading Sources
NEW YORK, NY, 09/18/2006, Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information and technology solutions to the worldwide financial community, announced today the launch of two new global Thomson ONE desktop solutions tailored to the unique and evolving requirements of hedge fund professionals in North America - Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Trading and Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Manager.
Streamlined for efficiency and faster interaction, both applications provide direct, unfiltered access to industry-leading sources for trading and financial analytics, including Thomson AutEx, Thomson Baseline, Thomson StreetEvents and Thomson First Call Research and Estimates. Comprised of the same modules, each solution’s workspace is configured to different users and workflows.
The Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Trading solution aggregates proprietary sources of Thomson content commingled with real-time pre-trade analytics, on a single desktop screen. With key assets in one place, the trade-oriented hedge fund professional has the benefit of pre-trade analysis with the Thomson Hedge Fund Trading desktop solution, and the flexibility to execute on any number of hedge fund strategies with access to the largest liquidity destinations through Thomson Order Routing.
Customizable cells within the FlexMonitor, let traders write mathematical formulas, monitor the values in real-time, and set alerts. Thomson ONE pushes trading strategies and arbitrage opportunities to the trader so that he/she can better time entry and exit points. An enhanced Alert tool, with push and filter functionality, allows traders to stay on top of market moving activity and to be the first to identify a trading opportunity before it is priced in the market. With the ease of identifying unusual volume relative to historical trends, traders are better able to assess trading patterns. Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Trading also allows traders to match their portfolio to the liquidity of AutEx. The Events Analysis tool provides intraday views of a stock’s performance directly after key events, such as earnings announcements, so that traders can more accurately predict the stock’s performance following future announcements.
"Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Trading was built after extensive interaction with the hedge fund trading community," said Dan Kramer, senior vice president, Institutional Equities, Thomson Financial. "Thomson Hedge Fund Trading empowers the trader with sophisticated analytics and greater efficiency in finding pools of liquidity to generate credible trading ideas. Our trading clients are better able to improve their execution through this end-to-end solution, from pre-trade analytics via Thomson ONE, to execution using Thomson Order Routing, and post trade analysis utilizing Thomson Gold Reports. It’s a complete application specifically designed so that traders set their own strategy and improve on execution time," said Kramer.
Thomson ONE Hedge Fund Management aggregates the same assets and configures them for the unique workflow of hedge fund professionals who have more traditional portfolio management and analysis responsibilities, and also require an overview of trading activity. Using this single desktop application, the hedge fund manager can monitor portfolios using real time market data and news to quickly identify drivers of performance and underachievers. Investment opportunities are uncovered with speed and precision using multiple content sets, including research, estimates, guidance, events calendar, filings, ownership and comparables. By tracking real-time pre-trade analytics across securities and derivatives, and identifying sources of liquidity, the solution enhances the hedge fund manager’s ability to manage positions and optimize buy and sell decisions.
"This streamlined solution helps the hedge fund manager to see the big picture and understand where the market is heading," said Eric Frank, global managing director, Investment Management.
"With everything at their fingertips, they can analyze economic indicators by country or category, track global index trends and activity, assess FX rates and fixed income composites, and evaluate markets. In real-time, the manager is able to monitor portfolio price movements, access market liquidity and evaluate securities. A Universal Screening tool even helps to find buy or sell candidates based on their financial characteristics," said Frank.
