AlphaNorth's Hedge Fund Back on Top - Ranked #1 in Globefund Database Over the Past 5 Years

Date: Monday, April 14, 2014
Author: Canada Newswire

AlphaNorth Asset Management's flagship hedge fund – The AlphaNorth Partners Fund's (the "Fund") Class F shares ranked #1 (excluding ETFs) across all fund categories in the Globefund database which consists of over 19,000 funds.  The Fund's Class F returned 43.4% annualized over the past five years for the period ending February 28, 2014.

"This strong result highlights our long term focus and demonstrates the potential strength of returns following periods of significant market decline.  February 2009, near the end of the Global Financial Crisis, our Fund's strategy was significantly out of favour.  We are proud that we have been able to achieve this result for our investors despite the weakness in Canadian small cap equities in recent years," said Steve Palmer, President and CEO of AlphaNorth Asset Management.  "This places the Fund well ahead of widely recognized Canadian equity benchmarks such as the S&P/TSX Venture index and the S&P/TSX Total Return Composite which returned 3.5% and 15.1% respectively over this period."

The AlphaNorth Partners Fund is RRSP eligible and is available through FundSERV under AAM300 for Class F and AAM400 for Class G.

About AlphaNorth
AlphaNorth Asset Management ("AlphaNorth") is a Toronto based investment manager.  AlphaNorth believes that superior long term equity returns are achievable by exploiting inefficiencies in the Canadian small cap universe through careful security selection on both a long and short basis.  The firm combines technical analysis with both a bottom-up and top-down strategy in the selection of investments offering the best reward versus risk opportunities.  AlphaNorth manages the AlphaNorth Partners Fund which is a long biased small cap focused hedge fund, which was launched in December 2007.  The Fund's objective is to maximize returns over the long term.  AlphaNorth also manages two mutual funds available to non-accredited investors, the AlphaNorth Growth Fund and AlphaNorth Resource Fund.
