The Ontario Securities Commission, the main securities regulator in Canada, is studying whether hedge funds should be subject to increased regulation, David Brown, the chairman of the commission, said. The Investment Dealers Association of Canada, a self-regulator for financial services, has said in a report that regulators should review hedge funds to ensure investors know what they are buying. "Many hedge funds are sold in a market where they're exempt from securities regulation," Brown said. "We're looking at whether that continues to make sense, given the growth of hedge funds."
