Ready or not, a biopic of the life and times of Bernard L. Madoff is apparently already in the works.
Earlier this month the film’s executive producer and writer, Edmund Druilhet, told The Insider that “Madoff: Made Off With America” had been in production for over three weeks.
The film, The Insider said, will span Mr. Madoff’s life beginning with his childhood and will include locations like New York, Aspen, London and Dubai.
By the looks of the film’s promotional Web site, the feature may not win any Academy Awards. (In one of the videos on the site, Mr. Druilhet calls Mr. Madoff a “scumdog millionaire” and says that no one has since Adolf Hitler has taken so much money from the Jewish people.)
Nonetheless, The Daily Beast, getting into the swing of things, has already named its picks to play some of the central characters caught up in Mr. Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme.
Among them: Dustin Hoffman to play Mr. Madoff; Sam Waterston to play Walter Noel, founder of Fairfield Greenwich Group, one of Mr. Madoff’s biggest feeder funds; Barbra Streisand to incarnate Ruth Madoff; and James Brolin to play Mr. Madoff’s lawyer, Ira Lee Sorkin.
