RBC has hired Flavio Paparella, head of the financial institutions desk at Bank of Ireland, to lead its structured products sales push into LatAm. The position is a new one for RBC, whose presence in the region is largely made up of a wealth management network. The hire also marks an entry into the LatAm institutional client area, already covered by several Wall Street shops.

Paparella, who is Argentine, says initially he will work on servicing financial clients such as central banks, banks, pension funds, mutual funds, hedge funds and insurance companies in countries like Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. The underlying assets for the structured products should include the full gamut of global assets, including FX, equities and fixed income.
