TOP 25 HEDGE FUND FOUNDATIONS REACH $4.6 BILLION

New York, June 11, 2008 –The top 25 hedge fund foundations now have $4.6 billion, according to Absolute Return, the premier U.S. hedge fund magazine. That’s 31% more than the $3.5 billion hedge fund foundations had last year. “Spreading the Wealth,” an article in the June 2008 edition, reflects totals for foundations’ most recent federal filings, which span from calendar year end 2005 to fiscal year 2007.

 

Despite market volatility, total annual giving by the top 25 hedge fund foundations increased by 61%, to $459 million, compared with data available at this time last year. The analysis also reported that three most popular causes among hedge funds are charities aimed at children, education and healthcare.

 

“A great deal of attention has been placed on the compensation that hedge fund managers receive. This survey sheds some light on the fact that they have shared their wealth with diverse and worthy causes,” said Michelle Celarier, editor of Absolute Return.
