Fund of hedge funds manager and data provider Tremont Capital Management has added a managing director for investment management services in the latest move to expand its business.

Susan Crotty’s responsibilities will straddle the sales and marketing team and investment management group. She will work with both teams to develop plans for institutional investors.

Crotty previously worked as senior vice president at investment adviser Callan Associates and was a managing director with Ark Asset management. She is scheduled to start on February 25.

Rupert Allan, Tremont chief executive, said Crotty’s appointment reflected the growth and development strategy it implemented last year to grow its fund of hedge fund assets and expand its global footprint.

Allan said: “Sue’s extensive experience consulting to a wide variety of institutions on fund of hedge fund investing, her understanding of what investors are seeking to accomplish with their alternatives strategy and her knowledge of what investors are seeking to accomplish with their alternatives strategy and her knowledge of our industry delivers tremendous benefits to our clients.”

Crotty is the latest hire in Tremont’s expansion. The firm hired Robert Stone from New York Life Investment Management to lead global sales in October. Mark Santero, the chief operating officer, was hired from Ivy Asset Management in April. Allan became the chief executive of the company in June. Robert Schulman, who previously served in the role, took over Tremont’s flagship fund and continues to work as chairman of the company.

Tremont had $9.5bn (€6.4bn) in assets under management as of April 2007.
