Tremont expands research coverage of Canadian hedge funds

Date: Thursday, December 12, 2002

Tremont Investment Management, Inc., the Canadian subsidiary of Tremont Advisers, Inc., a global provider of hedge fund investment management services, announced today that it will be greatly expanding its research coverage of Canadian-domiciled hedge funds. Tremont Investment, based in Toronto, was formed in 1998 to provide hedge fund investment management services to the Canadian marketplace. Integral to its research effort will be an extensive campaign to include more Canadian hedge funds in Tremont's TASS Database. Tremont's TASS Database tracks more than 3,200 hedge funds from around the world, but has historically seen very little representation from Canadian managers. "By expanding our coverage of the Canadian market, we expect to uncover a number of new and established hedge funds that may be suitable for our institutional fund of hedge fund programs worldwide," said Robert Parnell, president of Tremont Investment Management, Inc, in a news release. "While the Canadian hedge fund industry is still in its infancy, it is expanding and we believe there are a number of excellent managers here who we want to capture from a research perspective." Tremont's TASS Database also serves as the data engine for a number of hedge fund data vendors including HedgeWorld and is the backbone of the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index, the hedge fund industry's first asset-weighted benchmark of hedge fund performance. For the next several months, Tremont will be coordinating with database managers in New York and London to assure that this formal campaign reaches the entire Canadian hedge fund industry.
