Stockbroker Christopher Carter, charged with attacking a hedge-fund manager and fellow gym-goer during a workout routine, has lost his job.

Carter, who worked for Maxim Investments Group, allegedly attacked Stuart Sugarman during an indoor cycling class that both men attended because Sugarman would cheer himself on, hollering "Great song!" and "You go girl!" while working out. Sugarman is suing Carter, who has been charged with a misdemeanor.

The reason Carter was fired was not ascertained. Web-based Wall Street tabloid DealBreaker.com broke the story of his firing.

According to Sugarman, Carter inflicted a "spine crushing" assault that required surgery.

Sugarman, 48, a manager at Sunrise Financial Group, also said the gym where the assault took place, Equinox, cancelled his membership.

Sugarman alleged the assault should have been considered a felony. A lawyer for Carter has said Sugarman is exaggerating his injury.
