Boaz Manor, the co-founder of collapsed hedge fund Portus Alternative Asset Management Inc., will not be arriving in Canada today as expected to face criminal charges. Mr. Manor has been in Israel since shortly after Portus collapsed in 2005. The RCMP and lawyers for Portus's receiver had been working on a deal to have him fly back to Toronto today but so far no agreement has been reached. Last week, the RCMP laid several charges against Mr. Manor and his partner, Michael Mendelson. "On Sunday, Mr. Manor made the decision himself to cancel the planned flight that would have had him in Canada [today]," a spokesman for the receiver said today. The spokesman added that negotiations are still under way.
