Grant Thornton UK LLP announced last week that it established a new financial services group after completing its July 1 merger with U.K. accountancy firm RSM Robson Rhodes LLP. The group replaces Grant Thornton's financial markets group and Robson Rhodes' financial services practice. The financial services group will include experts offering advice in banking, fund management, insurance, investment, fraud and forensic investigation, audit, tax, pensions, private equity and hedge funds. The group, which will consist of 13 partners and an additional 150 staff, will be headed up by Grant Thornton partner Ian Gorham, a chartered accountant who joined Grant Thornton in 2003. "Increasing our strategic offering in the marketplace has been a key driver for us over the past 12 to 18 months and the creation of this new team has helped us achieve this goal," Mr. Gorham said in a statement. "With the inclusion of fund management and investment professionals to the team, the depth, scale and access we can now offer our clients is a credible alternative to the Big Four." The group will be based in Grant Thornton's Finsbury Square office in London and represents around £22 million ($44.5 million) of the firm's total revenue. Grant Thornton UK is a member of Grant Thornton International, an organization of independently owned and managed accounting and consulting firms offering services to privately held and public interest businesses.
