The Canadian chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association has announced its new executive committee for 2006-08.

Jim McGovern is stepping down from his role as founding chairman and will be replaced by Phil Schmitt, a hedge fund executive and president of Summerwood Group.

Michael Burns of McMillan Binch Mendelsohn LLP will succeed Gary Ostoich as legal counsel and Chris Pitts from PricewaterhouseCoopers will replace Jow Lee as treasurer.

They will be joined by deputy chair Tris Lett and secretary Andrew Doman.

"We are grateful to these outgoing executives for their leadership and the important role they have played in the notable achievements of AIMA Canada," Schmitt says.

AIMA Canada was established in 2003 to act as the voice of the alternative investment industry in this country and has more than 70 members.
